Mesfin Telahun Gelaye

Mesfin Tilahun Gelaye is an Associate Professor of Economics and has been working at Arba Minch University (2019-present), Mekelle University (2000-2021), and the School of Economics and Business of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (2014-2024), where he is still an associate. His research works are in the domains of environmental and natural resource economics, development economics, and behavioral economics. His expertise in environmental and natural resources economics includes integrated economic and biophysical modeling of land degradation, analyses of the effect of sustainable land management/nature-based solutions (on poverty, food security, employment, economic growth, and climate change adaptation and mitigation), valuation of ecosystem services, cost-benefit analysis of land use changes, assessing REDD+ opportunity cost of conserving forest reserves, natural capital accounting and accounting comprehensive/inclusive wealth. He has strong theoretical and empirical knowledge of economic, ecological/environmental, and social/institutional systems with great interest in exploring the causal relations and dynamics in search of a balance for a sustainable future in a changing climate.
